I burned my hand with a hair straightener what do i do?

Run cool water over the burn for at least 10 minutes. Cool, mind, not cold and definetly do not put ice on it; bringing the tissue temperature from very hot to very cold very quickly actually causes further damage. Burned skin is very fragile, and you can even end up with frostbite on it.

So, cool water. Then pat the burn dry and, if it's a minor burn, bandage it lightly with nonstick gauze and that's that.

If there are blisters, it's a 2nd degree burn and since it's on your hand you should see a doctor. It's not urgent unless it's a very bad burn-- I don't know what time zone you're in, but it's almost 10 PM where I am, and doctor's offices are closed. If it's very bad-- large blisters, charring, covering a large area-- head to the E.R. Otherwise you can wait till the morning and phone your doctor for an evaluation.

Do not put butter, toothpaste, or any other home remedies on it. Do not put any creams or ointments (neosporin, etc.) on it either, as anything oily or greasy will trap the residual heat and can make the burn worse.I burned my hand with a hair straightener what do i do?
